It’s officially prep time!

It’s official. I have signed up for my first marathon. In less than two weeks, I will be in Burlington, VT (home of the Ben & Jerry’s Factory) and about to make the ultimate leap from non-runner to marathoner in the Keybank Vermont City Marathon! I’m super psyched.

At lunch today, my manager wanted to know how fast Oprah ran (4:29), because he says if I can’t beat her it’s pathetic and he’d laugh at me. Pretty high pressure! I told him going 26 miles is much harder than you think. He said he could easily walk it in 6 hours, which is the time limit for Vermont. (This from the guy who’s never run more than 1.5 miles in his life). I challenged him to come try, but he’s going to Thailand to lie on the beach that weekend – pathetic. Here is a direct quote to give you his thoughts on runners (spoken after I told him that I thought Cute Runner Guy from the Brooklyn Half was a nice guy): “I’m sure runners think other runners are nice… but I think runners are kind of wacko.”

On that note, I’m wackily thinking about getting a shirt printed for the occasion. RunningBanana.com was going to take three weeks total, so I found Zazzle, which ships within 24 hours at a variety of shipping speeds. I came up with the following design, which I really like, but it’s going to be about $40 after shipping.

Worth it? I can’t decide. I might be better off just buying a nice singlet and decorating it myself, especially since this one doesn’t have a built in bra so I’d prob have to wear a tank top under it anyway. Thoughts, anyone? I’d like to get this ordered tonight if that’s what I decide.

  1. I say go for it. Your own shirt would be a nice way to commemorate your first marathon. You better take pictures of a 13-scoop cone.

    Congrats on taking the plunge.

  2. I agree with Viper. I still have my first marathon shirt. If I had known how much sentimental value it would hold forever..I’d give it so much more pazzass (?sp). BTW, that is an awesome design!

  3. Get it!! (except if it were me, I’d have a cosmo instead of the ice cream :-p )

Also-please do not call yourself a non-runner…running does not equal marathoning (to quote a teammate of mine) I know quite a few people who have never done a marathon-and I never would think of them as non-runners…
