Oops

You’ve got to love when you IM someone from your company at 6:30 AM, thinking they’re up for some chat, and you share a few personal things in your IM. Then they reply with, “I’m actually in a client meeting right now and my laptop is being projected… we’ll talk later.”

(That has nothing to do with either drinking or fitness, but I still wanted to share.)

  1. I hope the IMs weren’t too personal, but don’t sweat it if they were. I think anyone who has ever IM’d at work has been in a similar situation–maybe not projected up on a screen during a client meeting, but perhaps while the boss is looking over a shoulder.

I now minimize any IM windows whenever someone comes into my office, and if my laptop is being used in a presentation, I sign off.

  2. Funny…just hoped you didn’t share anything too personal…

Anyway, just to let you know…the trail camp idea sounds like fun, but I don’t think I’ll be able to fit into my work schedule…we always need 2 months advanced notice to cancel clinic and fridays are our busy day…so no can do…although it definitely sounds like something I’d consider in the future!

Thanks for letting me know anyways!

  3. Oh! That’s funny!

My worst is when my boss comes to my cube with out me seeing him, and sees me on various blogs while waiting for something to run… Oops.

  4. Oh wow…that sucks. Too bad you didn’t have a chance to make light of it and type something like, “Tell the clients I say hi.” Hopefully your company’s clients have senses of humor : ).

  5. I have a friend who usually IMs something like “?” first, and waits for a reply, before typing anything else.

I asked him about it once, and he said it was to make sure I was available to IM.

  6. eek. we’ve all done something similar… i just sent an email to the person i was talking ABOUT instead of the person i was talking TO. haha. needless to say, i check my “to” line in an ocd manner now.
