My feet only hurt because I kicked so much ass!

I didn’t want to make a big thing of this before the race, because I didn’t want readers and/or my mom to tell me not to run, but my knee really hurt a lot before. However! Though it hurt while walking to the start, by one mile in, the pain was gone, and now that I’ve finished 26.2, it’s totally fine even to walk. I suppose my knee is the epitome of me: it loves both alcohol and running.

I finished in about 4:23, which isn’t a time I’m necessarily thrilled with, but I’m perfectly happy with it since it’s my third consecutive weekend in a row. What I am totally thrilled with are all the wonderful people I met on the course and what a terrific time I had doing it! I never thought I would say this, but it just felt effortless. Didn’t really start feeling tired until about mile 24, and by then, who cares. I finished with an amazing sprint and a huge smile on my face, and I have never felt better after finishing a marathon. My legs aren’t sore at all (there is NO marathon limp, though my feet are a little bit sore), I feel full of energy, and I’m kind of wishing I were running another full tomorrow instead of a half.

Hope everyone else’s races today went just as well! Full race report to come.

  1. Hi Laura!!I found your blog, as you see. It was great meeting you today during the race in Hartford. In case you’re wondering who the heck I am, I’m the 52 year old guy from Cheshire, CT who you ran with for a while today. Thanks for the hug at the end! Anyhow, the Christopher Martin’s 5K run I was telling you about is on Sunday, December 14 in New Haven CT. It’s only 1 1/4 miles from the New Haven train station. LOTS of free beer afterwards, and great food. Oh yeah, the course is flat also. I’ll be front row at the bar, as a bunch of slow running drunks will be running!! “Rick” P.S. This is the first time I’ve ever blogged!!

  2. Rick, it was wonderful running with you today! Can you leave your e-mail in a comment – I’m unable to contact you without that.

    Great job today!!!! 🙂

  3. ha-i saw that sign in the NYC marathon (the post title) 🙂 loved that sign!!

anyway, congrats on checking off another state-good luck and be careful tomorrow in staten island 🙂

  4. Oh to be 21 (or is it 22?) again!! You are a bottomless pit of energy my friend. Congrats on a great race!! What’s next? Are you still thinking about the Route 66 Marathon?

Take care of that knee – even though the doc said there wasn’t anything wrong with it. If there’s pain, there’s something going on.

Have a relaxing Sunday – you deserve it!!

  5. Hey Contratulations. Was it you that saw me? I was not sure, but amazing time. How about that…glad I didn’t take that train with you, sorry you arrived so late…but AMAZING STORY!!! you did amazing, can’t say the same about myself, but yes, that was a tricky course with all those hills in the end…

    Hope all is well…happy recovery!

  6. You really are a crazy marathoner 🙂 And I thought going to spinning three consecutive weekends in a row was rough! ha ha – congrats on another great race

  7. Laura, to answer your question on my blog – no, I haven’t done any races in NYC except the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run which I HIGHLY recommend. I am entering the lottery for NYC 2009 (3rd time lucky?) – hope to see you there!!

  8. CONGRATS Laura! OMG I’d probably finish in like 8 hrs or something after banging out all those marathons. You did fabulous! ;D

You were right too, there WERE a lot of ARE peeps there today. Most of them seem like a cool bunch 🙂

  9. Glad to read #3 in a row went well. My husband said the same thing when he ran his 5 marathons in 5 weeks. Week 4, he said it felt easier. It amazing how well the body can adapt. You are doing amazing too, those are some impressive times you are pulling for running the marathons back to back! Well done! Is there going to be a forth one?

  10. I stumbled across your blog while looking for info about what to eat before an 8K. Turns out it is Absolut. Good to know.

The 8K (my first) went better than I planned. I am still not aiming for anything like a marathon, though. I am wiped out by just 5 miles, two days later.

    Keep up the great writing!

  11. Hi Laura,
Well, I just signed up to be a ” Marathon maniac” Might just buy one of their running singlets. They should have me listed on the site by next week. I believe I enter as a ” Gold ” member with my 5 marathons in 7 weeks. Still planning winter races that aren’t too far away. Keep blogging
    Jonathan

  12. Laura – you are truly amazing! How are you doing it?

BTW – I *love* televisionwithoutpity.com. Those writers are hilarious! Sometimes their recaps are more entertaining than the shows themselves!
