I didn’t want to make a big thing of this before the race, because I didn’t want readers and/or my mom to tell me not to run, but my knee really hurt a lot before. However! Though it hurt while walking to the start, by one mile in, the pain was gone, and now that I’ve finished 26.2, it’s totally fine even to walk. I suppose my knee is the epitome of me: it loves both alcohol and running.
I finished in about 4:23, which isn’t a time I’m necessarily thrilled with, but I’m perfectly happy with it since it’s my third consecutive weekend in a row. What I am totally thrilled with are all the wonderful people I met on the course and what a terrific time I had doing it! I never thought I would say this, but it just felt effortless. Didn’t really start feeling tired until about mile 24, and by then, who cares. I finished with an amazing sprint and a huge smile on my face, and I have never felt better after finishing a marathon. My legs aren’t sore at all (there is NO marathon limp, though my feet are a little bit sore), I feel full of energy, and I’m kind of wishing I were running another full tomorrow instead of a half.
Hope everyone else’s races today went just as well! Full race report to come.
