Weekend Recap: Sushi, St. Pats, and a Slew of Skiing

Powder_Day_At_Beaver_Creek

This was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time – I feel like things are finally looking up and the cloud that’s been raining bad luck on me for the first quarter is starting to lift! I’m still not really doing well on the sleep front, but I’m having fun – and that mental break is good enough for me. Friday was an unusual work day for me – it was the day of our fourth annual Denver Advisory trip to Winter Park resort! This is one of my favorite office traditions, where everyone is invited …

App I Love: Stretchly

StretchlyMicrobreak

My January was a little bit of a bust – I was probably only about half successful with my New Year’s resolutions (which I still haven’t even formally blogged about!). But I’m taking the new month as an opportunity to recommit to my goals and habits, and one of those new habits is my use of the Stretchly app on my computer. Stretchly is a simple computer app that pops up periodic reminders on your desktop for you to take either a microbreak or a full break. How Much Work Is Enough Work?

This week, I’m facilitating my company’s Discover program, a reward for our newly promoted senior associates that helps with leadership development and also gives them a lot of personal coaching to help identify their individual goals and priorities. I attended Discover myself five years ago, and this is now my third time coming back as the lead “orchestrator” (basically an emcee) of the event. No matter how many times I attend the sessions, though, I always take away something new. (To read more about what I’ve learned at past Discover sessions, see here, here, here, here, and here) Yesterday, speaker Jullien Gordon talked about …

March Goal Progress: Week 3 Check In

What_Is_A_Management_Consultant

I have been really overwhelmed lately, and just generally stressed on all fronts. It didn’t help that last week I got incredibly behind on sleep, which made me feel like a zombie all week. I’ve been reading a lot of articles lately on the importance of sleep and exactly what happens when you go without it (see my Links I Love yesterday). But one of the most compelling sources of sleep information was not an article, but this podcast episode from Chalene Johnson, which discussed how the brain gets impacted by lack of sleep. The TLDR (TLDListen?) is that sleep deprivation …
