Planning for More Time Doing Nothing

East_Inlet_Trail_Grand_Lake

I recently read and loved this article by Nir Eyal on how Planning Ahead Is the Key to Living With More Spontaneity. The title is intriguingly contradictory, but it’s something I’ve known about myself for a while: if I can strictly plan everything I have to do (with the help of a to-do list or calendar), I can comfortably waste some time, even if everything else isn’t done yet. Timeboxing makes it a lot easier for me to enjoy the time I’m wasting, rather than worrying about “goofing off” and doing something unproductive, and it’s part of why I love …

Weekend Recap: Happy New Year!

NYE_Ball_Drop

Although my consulting firm had our holiday shutdown and I was technically off work all week, I had a different kind of work scheduled – ski instructing at Beaver Creek! I had an absolutely amazing time teaching seven classes, mostly levels 4 and 5 (linking turns and getting parallel on easy blue terrain), and even ended up with a high-ranking political official in one of my classes! 75_Hard_Challenge

Next week will mark two full months alone in quarantine for me… something I never imagined when this all began. And yet, I’m finding that I’m reasonably content. Weekend Recap: Filling the Time

Trail_Walk_With_Sesame

On Tuesday, I hosted a virtual happy hour for one of my teams at work. I had everyone fill out a survey of silly / interesting questions ahead of time, then we guessed who gave which answer. It was a lot of fun! One of the questions was, “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?” Whenever I’ve been asked this question in the past, my answer has always been, “the ability to freeze time.” In the last few years, I have found myself acutely aware of how limited my time is. There is so much I want to …

Quarantine Health Goals

FamilyGuyMeeting

I’m sure you’ve seen some of the memes out there about coming out of quarantine unrecognizable due to weight gain. I’m taking the opposite approach. I’ve been indulging a bit too much on yummy food and drinks lately, so I’m trying to take advantage of my extended stay at home as an opportunity to eat healthy, work out hard, and come out in better shape than I went in! My hard-and-fast daily quarantine rules are as follows: Do a Peloton core workout every morning. I’ve been particularly loving this 5 minute class by Robin… I’ve tried a bunch of ten …
