To Be Successful, Start by Being Happy

Instagram_Stories_Westin_DTW

I recently read a fascinating interview with Amy Blankson of the UN’s Global Happiness Council. In it, Blankson notes that 90% of our happiness isn’t determined by genes or environment, but by our ability to be optimistic in how we view various situations. This was a huge epiphany for me. I don’t think my life has been any better in the last few months than it has been any other year of my life – but I’ve started focusing on all the things that make me happy and reframing the things that don’t. As a result, for the last few …

A Small Change to My Snacking Habit (Sponsored by Somersaults)

Somersaults_Ski_Pocket

This post was sponsored by Somersaults as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. I’ve written before about how little changes can add up to big results, and how one of my 2017 new year’s resolutions is to start each day with a very small healthy habit. Every morning, the very first thing I do after getting out of bed is 10 pushups, 20 lunges, and 30 plank shoulder taps. What_Is_A_Management_Consultant

Can you believe it’s nearly October already?? 2016 has flown by, and it’s crazy to think there’s only one quarter left. I’m still trying to figure out what my October challenge is going to be, and part of that has been because I don’t know what my day-to-day life is going to look like. One of the stresses of consulting is that your lifestyle changes dramatically from project to project, and there isn’t usually much insight into what you’re going to be doing next. With my current project wrapping up this week, I may be working from home in Colorado …

September Goal Check In: Week 2

dilbert_walking_and_texting

Last week, I was really positive and excited about my progress in my one-touch email challenge. This week? Not so much. I ran into quite a few snags, and at times even abandoned the goal when I was feeling particularly stressed. I discovered that when I force myself to reply via phone, my responses tend to be very short. As any reader of this blog knows, I have a tendency to be very wordy. But I think my business correspondence already hits the right level of extra words to soften messages and make them friendlier. Forcing myself to respond immediately and via phone made …
