Book Review: Jillian Michaels’ Slim For Life

I’ve recently become a total podcast addict. I listen while I’m getting ready in the morning (which is still only 20-30 minutes despite my new focus on my appearance), I listen while I’m driving (in Dallas), and I listen when I’m walking/taking the subway (in NYC). I’ve been plowing through podcasts like crazy, but lucky for me, one of my favorites has quite a library of archives – the Jillian Michaels podcast. For the last few months, Jillian has been {Read More}

To gym or not to gym?

This morning, I was catching up on an episode of the Biggest Loser (episode 7, for those of you who follow along), wherein some of the contestants lost the use of the gym for a week and had to make do without it. Bob and Jillian threw a hissy fit when that happened, talking all about how the gym was an integral part of getting in shape. In the end, they resorted to shoulder pressing lawn furniture, and they all {Read More}

Have you seen my motivation? I can’t find it…

Recently I’ve been trying to use my old standard tactic of setting short term goals to inspire me to lose weight. For example, I have my DIY fitness cruise coming up this weekend, which is a great reason to get in shape (so I can look good in a bikini onboard). However, even the short-term motivation just isn’t working these days. On Monday mornings, I have to get up at 5:30am to be out of the apartment by 6:15am for {Read More}

More marathon advice inspired by The Biggest Loser

This morning at the gym, I watched the first half of the Biggest Loser Finale. I love the finale episodes – it’s always so fun to see exactly how far they’ve come! Though I really wish they’d do away with the contestants first appearing in those awful party outfits – the girls are always stuffed into their satin shiny dresses, while the men are wearing tight Euro-style suits… and I swear they don’t look that different than their before pictures! {Read More}

If you can dream it, you can do it

For the last two weeks, I’ve gotten really good about going to the gym. Amazing considering I was a slacker for the last 6 months or so (well, I did marathons, but I didn’t exercise at all besides those)! My new routine is to set my alarm for 6:15, snooze till 6:30, and be dressed and downstairs at the gym by 6:45. I’ve figured out how to get my favorite TV shows to play on my Droid, so I watch {Read More}

My butt is famous!

I was so excited to watch The Biggest Loser season finale last night. I had planned a small get together with friends at my apartment, and was psyched to be serving healthy snacks to boot: cut veggies, homemade hummus, and even some special cupcakes! I headed out of work around 5:30 and descended into the subway… but when I reached into my pocket for my wallet, it was not there. Thinking maybe I had put it in my bag instead {Read More}

Biggest Loser Season Finale Tomorrow!

This has been a crazy week! Lots of long hours at work (with me absolutely loving the fact that 50 hours a week is considered long hours) kept me busy during the week, and then on the weekend I had my brother’s fiancee’s bridal shower (I was a bridesmaid so I was doing all the planning/hosting) and then Mother’s Day. My mom was at the shower, so I did some special stuff for her there, and then on Sunday, Boyfriend {Read More}

Race Report: Country Music Marathon

The short version: yesterday was my second slowest marathon ever… and I am so glad! When I went through the lobby to head to the race, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they were taking care of runners. The Sheraton Nashville Downtown wasn’t even the host hotel, but they had two tubs of bananas and an oranges and a gigantic tub of ice cold bottled water, all totally complimentary for runners before the race. I’ve never been to {Read More}

Why can’t lying in bed to watch the Silverman Ironman on TV count as actually doing my long run?

Happy Easter everyone! It’s been a good weekend for me, though I kind of feel like a slug for not working out. On Friday night, Boyfriend and I went to dinner and had a long talk that has made me so confident and happy in the relationship – it’s really exciting for me to have things going so well. On Saturday, we spent the morning together and then I spent the afternoon being productive – doing my laundry, cleaning out {Read More}

Hey, at least I ran!

I’m absolutely loving my new job, and the schedule is ridiculously easy. While I’m training, it’s about 9:30-5, but once I actually start working my markets, it’s basically any 9 hours a day as long as the majority of them are during normal business hours. Most of my team opts to come in anywhere from 9:30 to noon, depending on when they feel like waking up that day. How great is that?! However, regardless of how easy my hours are, {Read More}
