2017 Monthly Check In: August and September

As you may have noticed, I didn’t end up writing a goal recap for August :( September was just a really busy month, and I ended up falling behind on several fronts, so now you’re getting August and September rolled into one. Here’s how I progressed on my 2017 goals in the last two months: I have been completely missing my 10 pushups / 20 split squats / 30 plank leg lifts routine, and it really shows when it comes to my pushups. {Read More}

2017 Monthly Goal Check In: May

Whoops, June has been super busy and so I’m more than two weeks late in getting this check in done! I’ll keep it short, but want to stay accountable by still talking about my goal progress in May. Toward the end of the month, I fell off the bandwagon with my morning routine of 10 pushups, 20 lunges, and 30 plank leg lifts. About halfway through the month, I switched from lunges to bodyweight split squats, and I liked that change {Read More}

2017 Monthly Goal Check In: April

This was a bit of an odd month for me. I had a week of vacation, followed by a week of being incredibly sick, and all that really threw me off my schedule! I’m really looking forward to getting back on track in the month of May. I stuck with my daily morning routine of 10 pushups, 20 lunges, and 30 plank leg lifts about half the days I was on vacation, and completely forgot about it the other days. And {Read More}

2017 Monthly Goal Check In: March

Well, I skipped doing a monthly goal check in last month because of my health scare. No news to report there, but tomorrow I finally have my appointment with the neurologist to piece together all my wonky test results… so tomorrow’s basically judgment day! I’ll let you know what I find out. In the meantime, how about I get back on track with a progress check in on my 2017 goals? My morning routine is still going strong, and I haven’t {Read More}

My Top Books of (the second half of) 2016

Today I finished my 100th book of the year, meeting my goal! And now I’m already diving into my first book of 2017, Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth. I’m so happy to see your thoughtful comments on my top books of the first half of 2016, and that inspired me to get the second half done quickly too. Hope you enjoy these books I enjoyed between July and December! Grit: Passion, Perseverance, and the Science of Success, by Angela Duckworth. I’ve read about {Read More}

My Top Books of (the first half of) 2016

I started writing this post in July, when we were halfway through the year – but never quite ended up finishing/posting it. But here we are in December, when all of us are trying to wrap up all those loose ends before the new year… and so the draft has resurfaced! This year, my goal was to read 100 books over the course of the year. Well, on December 29th, I’m squarely on track – about 25 pages to go {Read More}

December Goal Progress: Week 2

This has been a busy week! My mom flies in tonight for an eight day visit, so I’ve been trying to get as much work as possible done now so I don’t have to work when she’s here. I think I’m in pretty good shape, though – will likely only have a few hours of work tomorrow, and then maybe an hour or so each day between now and the new year to check email and fire off a few quick responses. {Read More}

Transforming My Oak Banisters with Cherry Gel Stain

First up in my December challenge to transform my house? The banister. Part of what sold me on this house was how the staircase is so open; it makes the front entryway so light and airy to be able to see up to the second floor loft. But I wasn’t in love with the banister itself. The first DIY project I took on was replacing all the brass doorknobs/fixtures that dated the house back to the 90s. But once that was {Read More}

December Goal: Make a Home for the Holidays

This is shaping up to be an odd month for me. When I’m staffed on a client, I’m used to traveling for my job four days a week, every week. In November, I had a break from client service after wrapping up a big project and then focusing on teaching our senior associate Discover program. Afterward, it was Thanksgiving, and new projects are generally slow to start in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, I got staffed on a fantastic new {Read More}

November Goal: Books > Facebook

I haven’t been blogging much this month, because I’ve had a lot of personal stuff going on that I don’t really want to air publicly. Unfortunately, all of that was further exacerbated this Wednesday, when I started to see the full backlash of the election results. It feels like the whole country is up in arms, and it doesn’t seem like the instability will go away any time soon. Over the past few days, I’ve realized that when I’ve been {Read More}
