Class Review: Pound Fitness

The last few Saturdays, I’ve been going to a trendy new workout class that’s a ton of fun: Pound Fitness. I first heard about Pound Fitness several years ago, but never had a studio offering it near me… until now. Two months ago, I saw it on Classpass and immediately knew I wanted to check it out. I assumed it would be primarily a cardio class, so scheduled it after a 5K morning race – figuring it would be good to burn {Read More}

New Project: I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here

One of the best parts about consulting is how we move around from project to project, applying experience in one industry/situation to another. One month I’m working on a business case for a new product in the tech industry, the next, I’m writing change management communications for a pharmaceutical client. I’m always learning something new, and there’s definitely never any opportunity to get bored or complacent! That’s why I came back to consulting after a brief stint working “in industry” (as we {Read More}

2017 Monthly Goal Check In: January

I still feel like I’m getting used to it being January of a new year, but we’re already a month into 2017. Time is flying so far this year! This year, I set a few small goals to work on over the course of the year. My plan is to check in every month, and potentially revise some of the goals a little bit as needed, but ultimately, keep track of my ongoing progress. And so far, I’m doing pretty {Read More}

October Goal Challenge Complete: 20 ClassPass Gym Classes

I was really proud of myself for how I did with my October goal challenge. I was afraid that doing 20 gym classes in 20 days was too aggressive. But I ended up finishing the month with 24 classes at 17 different studios! I definitely discovered some new favorites that I plan to visit in the future. Here’s the rundown of all the classes I took in the last week: Barre Forte: This is a relatively new chain of barre studios {Read More}

October Goal Check In: Week 2

Week 2 of my (delayed) October challenge is now in the books, and I did pretty well sticking to my workout a day plan! (And my butt is feeling pretty sore to boot.) Here are the ClassPass studios I tried in the last week: Brendle at TruFit: I didn’t really know what this class was, which was why I was excited to try it. Basically, a simple bootcamp that was to-the-point but unimpressive. We rotated through six different stations with {Read More}

October Goal Check In: Week 1

I set my October goal a bit late, so I’m now wrapping up week 1 of my challenge to take 20 ClassPass classes by the end of the month. My hope was that committing to a certain number of classes would increase my accountability, and also increase my variety by forcing me to try some new-to-me studios in Colorado. Until this month, I’ve taken most of my ClassPass classes in Dallas; it’s like a whole new world here in Colorado! {Read More}

The Value of Varying Workouts

This morning, my friend Theodora wrote a thought-provoking post on why specificity matters in workouts. I read her post, and I also read the linked articles that provide more scientific background. But I have to say, despite all the science behind muscle confusion not working, I still love ClassPass, and think that the variety it provides is incredibly beneficial. Ultimately, whether or not specificity matters will come down to your goals. Theodora says, “If you don’t have specific goals, planning your {Read More}

October Goal: 20 ClassPass Gym Classes

We’re already a third of the way into October, but it took me till now to commit to a goal for the month. Things in my life just feel so strange and up in the air that I’ve been reluctant to commit to anything! Last weekend, Adam and I went to Atlanta for a long weekend visiting some friends. Last week, I slept in my own bed on weeknights for a change while helping out with a pro bono project at work. {Read More}

Workout Recap: 9/25-10/1

I was grumping to Adam a lot about my rest day yesterday – I hate being inactive, and usually prefer to just vary my workout rather than taking actual rest days. But it turned out that my rest day and all my workouts the last few weeks paid off, as today I broke my 5K PR by a whopping 93 seconds!!! Race report coming next week, but for now, here’s the rundown of my last week of workouts: Sunday 9/25: Inspired {Read More}

Workout Recap: 9/18-9/24

This was a really strong week of workouts! I am starting to see significant progress in my running, and it feels fantastic. Sunday 9/18: Lazed around most of the day and felt pretty guilty about it, so just before bed I did a 15 minute bodyweight workout I made up as I went. 50 reps each of squats, plie squats, leg lifts, leg lift pulses, bridges, crunches, backups, and side leg lifts. Monday 9/19: Monday mornings are always tough, but this {Read More}
