The Value of Varying Workouts

This morning, my friend Theodora wrote a thought-provoking post on why specificity matters in workouts. I read her post, and I also read the linked articles that provide more scientific background. But I have to say, despite all the science behind muscle confusion not working, I still love ClassPass, and think that the variety it provides is incredibly beneficial. Ultimately, whether or not specificity matters will come down to your goals. Theodora says, “If you don’t have specific goals, planning your {Read More}

October Goal: 20 ClassPass Gym Classes

We’re already a third of the way into October, but it took me till now to commit to a goal for the month. Things in my life just feel so strange and up in the air that I’ve been reluctant to commit to anything! Last weekend, Adam and I went to Atlanta for a long weekend visiting some friends. Last week, I slept in my own bed on weeknights for a change while helping out with a pro bono project at work. {Read More}

Workout Recap: 9/25-10/1

I was grumping to Adam a lot about my rest day yesterday – I hate being inactive, and usually prefer to just vary my workout rather than taking actual rest days. But it turned out that my rest day and all my workouts the last few weeks paid off, as today I broke my 5K PR by a whopping 93 seconds!!! Race report coming next week, but for now, here’s the rundown of my last week of workouts: Sunday 9/25: Inspired {Read More}

Workout Recap: 9/18-9/24

This was a really strong week of workouts! I am starting to see significant progress in my running, and it feels fantastic. Sunday 9/18: Lazed around most of the day and felt pretty guilty about it, so just before bed I did a 15 minute bodyweight workout I made up as I went. 50 reps each of squats, plie squats, leg lifts, leg lift pulses, bridges, crunches, backups, and side leg lifts. Monday 9/19: Monday mornings are always tough, but this {Read More}

Workout Recap: 9/8-9/17

I need to get into a regular Saturday cadence in logging my workouts! Here goes for the last week and a half… Thursday 9/8:  I spent Wednesday night traveling back to Dallas from Ithaca, and didn’t get to my hotel in Dallas until midnight. Thursday I wasn’t feeling a workout at all, but forced myself to at least do two quick miles on the treadmill. First mile was 7:53 pace the whole way; the second mile, I sped up each {Read More}

Workout Recap: 8/29 – 9/7

Even though my September goal is about cutting back on my email checking, I’ve really enjoyed sharing my workout log on my blog every week in August, so I’d like to keep doing that. I’m not sure what day of the week this will typically come (Saturdays?) but for now, here’s a midweek update on the last week and a half: Monday 8/29: This should not have been a rest day, but it mostly was. I did, however, squeeze in a {Read More}

Turning A Flight Delay Into 8,000 Steps

Well, I am really glad that no-complaining month is over, because tonight I had a lot to complain about. I had not one but two flights get delayed three hours each. The kicker was this frustrating conversation: Me to gate agent: “I know it says we’ll be boarding in two minutes, but the gate is empty. Is our flight still on time?” Gate agent: “Oh, yes, definitely on time.” Me: “But it looks like our planned inbound aircraft hasn’t landed yet. Did we get an {Read More}

How ClassPass Helps Me Commit to My Workouts

I’ve mentioned that I use ClassPass to book my workouts at boutique studios. For $99 a month, I get unlimited classes (up to three per month per studio) at a ton of studios I love! However, the other catch besides three classes per studio per month is that you can only sign up for classes a week in advance – and a lot of the studios that I like tend to fill up, sometimes even before availability is open to ClassPass {Read More}

Class Review: Burn Dallas

Have you ever put something fun on your to-do list, but then it stayed there so long that it stopped being appealing? That’s what happened to me with Burn Dallas, a new-ish fitness studio in Preston Hollow. I first heard about Burn Dallas three or four months ago, when I took a spin class with one of my favorite (now-former) Flywheel instructors, Mark. He gave me a rundown of some of the cool new openings in the area, and Burn was actually {Read More}

How to Improve Body Image Without Improving Your Body

Lately, I have been crushing it in the gym! I will be the first to admit that I frequently half-ass my workouts… and then wonder why I’m spending so much time in the gym with no results. But between trying to use up all my soon-to-expire Orangetheory classes and signing up for ClassPass, I’ve been finding a lot of new-to-me boutique studios that are really challenging me. Sweat sweat sweat sweat sweat! Regardless of how hard I’m working, I’m not {Read More}
