Wow! When I quickly posted my little rant yesterday about my scuffin surprise, I had no idea what a controversy it would generate. It’s taken all day for me to get around to it, but I have lots of things to say: For everyone asking if I heard back from Kath, I haven’t yet. If I do, I’ll let you know, but I probably won’t post her response verbatim – I’d be unhappy if someone posted one of my emails {Read More}
Nutrition trickery
In the last 36 hours, I’ve worked out HARD. Tuesday night, I went for that 4.8 mile hill run. Wednesday morning, I did an intense 45 minutes of heavy strength training. I posted yesterday about how exhausted and hungry I was after all that… so much that I wanted to crawl under my desk and take a nap. But I pushed on, and actually managed to get done with work early – 6pm! This is pretty much unheard of for {Read More}
Not my cup of cocoa
This afternoon at work, I was lagging and in need of some type of pick-me-up (low blood sugar? Maybe, I had eaten a light lunch). I went into the break room to grab coffee, and found myself contemplating the hot cocoa packets next to the coffee cups. Normally, I don’t like to drink my calories (I drink my coffee with no sugar and just a touch of skim milk), but I wondered exactly how much I’d be splurging to have {Read More}
Kardea Nutrition Bars
A month ago after writing about Lara Bars, I was contacted by Robert of Kardea Nutrition. Robert generously offered to send me a sample of his bars. A few days later, I had a package with not just one but four delicious bars to try! The bars had a smoothed-over texture that tasted good and was nice in my mouth (smooth and satiny yet still heavy and filling). At first I wasn’t a fan of the appearance of the bar, {Read More}
RBF Inspiration
I first got inspired by Frayed Laces, who asked if we could do something for 50 days, what would it be? I said that I wanted to try to eat raw vegan for 50 days. However, 50 days is a really long time, and seems like kind of a daunting task! I’ve been trying to eat raw vegan lately, and I’ve been doing pretty well on the vegan front, but not so much on the raw front. It’s really hard {Read More}
Carb loading and half marathon planning
This is my friend Charlie. He writes a column for the Daily Sun about snack foods. That article doesn’t nearly demonstrate the sheer amount of crappy foods he can eat in one sitting, but hopefully it at least gives you some idea. Maybe this will help explain why my friends aren’t always the best dieting influence on me, and I’m probably not on them either! But seriously, read that interview… it’s hysterical. And for those of you who read this {Read More}
Goodbye, Healthy Holiday Weekend… Hello, Mindless Hours With My Laptop!
I know a Friday doesn’t seem like a good day to blog about work, but I just got the good word that my three day weekend is no longer. I don’t even get a regular two day weekend. Instead, I get the dubious pleasure of heading into the office tomorrow, taking Sunday off, and then working Monday as well. At least Monday I can work remotely, which means my two day trip to Boston to visit my friend Adam is {Read More}

Biggest Loser: Water Weight and Real Losses/Gains
I have to say I really didn’t like last night’s Biggest Loser. I know I just posted two days ago about it being my favorite show, but I just thought that the focus of last night’s show really sent the wrong message. Losing/gaining weight is not about eating too much once, at a meal or at a temptation. It’s about a lifestyle. Eating one corn dog is not going to hurt you in the long run; it’s when you eat {Read More}
Fruit – Good or Bad?
Lance wrote a great column yesterday on Top 10 Better Health Resolutions. I am very pleased to say that I looked at the list and I am already very good about almost everything on it! I drink a ton of water (today it was 18 glasses, but that’s overkill; usually I’m more around 10-12) I lift weights/do resistance training daily. I’m working on increasing the amount of weight I lift and decreasing the reps, because I think that’s why I {Read More}
