What I Read in December 2022

I finished the year strong, with 10 books read in December 2022. Although that’s a high number, that’s actually almost exactly my average month – since I closed out the year with a whopping 122 books! That is the most I have ever read in a year (my previous best was 102 books in 2017), and while taking time off work / lying around during IVF probably influenced it, I was proud that I kept the average up even in {Read More}

What I Read In August 2022

As I’m starting to get back to “normal life” following my hormone-induced depression from IVF, I’m reading a bit less than the last few months… but I still read eight books in August, keeping me well on track for meeting my goal of 100 books a year. And a lot of them were awesome! 5 stars: Stay Awake, by Megan Goldin: Liv wakes up in a taxi with no recollection of how she got there… and when she goes to “her {Read More}

What I Read In July 2022

July was a reasonably solid reading month – I read 10 books this month, including several on the plane coming back from my trip to France. I’m still reading mostly light novels, though I snuck in a non-fiction book on heartbreak to try to clear my head after a breakup that’s had me pretty upset for months. 5 stars: Verity, by Colleen Hoover: I had read one Colleen Hoover book before, and it was quite the opposite of this – but {Read More}

Weekend Recap: Double Dog Date Weekend

My work day on Friday ended in an excellent way – with a wine tasting! I had a pretty frenetic work day up until then, but it was really nice to know that there was a hard stop to the day. This event had fifty people, and I did a class on the basics of wine tasting, then we tasted a variety of Coppola wines. I had actually visited the Coppola winery when I went to Sonoma years ago, and {Read More}

Weekend Recap: Virtual Wine Tasting and Bear / South Boulder Peak Loop

Friday was a good day at work, and it ended with something extra fun: a healthy happy hour riding on the Peloton with two of my coworkers! We did a Kendall class that was all emo music from the 2000s, and it was really fun. There was something wonky going on with the leaderboard, so we couldn’t high five each other, but I found it actually didn’t take much away from the workout to keep my phone perched on the {Read More}

Weekend Recap: Sunny Spring Weekend Sequestered in Superior

Friday was my Peloton bike delivery day, and I was so excited! Since I knew I’d want to shower after the delivery, I also made it my grocery shopping day, and headed to the store after a short walk with Sugar and then my regular 7am work call. However, the delivery people surprised me and called while I was at the store, saying they were ahead of scheduled and would it be okay for them to come early? I had just {Read More}

Weekend Recap: Finding Balance for the Long Run of Solitary Weekends Ahead

My weekend started out big… but that unfortunately caused me to crash. On Friday morning, I woke up and went for a run with Sugar before First Friday, but then made myself a giant pot of coffee that turned out to be my downfall. When I had just stocked up on a three-pack of Crazy Cups Cinnamon French Toast coffee (mmm so delicious!), I had accidentally ordered regular instead of decaf. I didn’t notice my mistake until I started getting {Read More}

Quarantine Goals, Take 2

Next week will mark two full months alone in quarantine for me… something I never imagined when this all began. And yet, I’m finding that I’m reasonably content. I miss my friends, and there are definitely bouts of loneliness. (As someone whose love language is touch, and who is always hugging friends, it’s nuts to me that I haven’t touched a single human in two months!) But I track my mood each day in the Daylio app on my phone, {Read More}

My COVID Vacances

On Tuesday, I took a day off work and went on vacation… to France! Well, in my imagination :) At work, we’re having an issue where no one is taking their vacation time. Not only could this be an issue when things start getting back to normal (someday? Maybe?) and everyone suddenly wants to take weeks of vacation at the same time, but it also means that staff aren’t taking the breaks they need to rest and recharge. Speaking for {Read More}

Weekend Recap: One Month in Quarantine

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a whole month of quarantine! I’ve gone to the grocery store a few times (generally once a week), but haven’t seen a single human I know in a month, which is crazy. It’s been just me and Sesame, and on the bright side, we are settling into quarantine life. After a long day of work, I was excited to have a fun evening activity – a Zoom happy hour with a few of my {Read More}
